"Between light and darkness" can be understood as a state of duality, in which neither absolute clarity nor total obscurity prevails. The phrase could serve as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of life and evokes a transience no doubt familiar to artists and performers.
This exhibition presents prints by Daniel Lopez, violinist and, being frequently ‘behind the curtain,' photographer for many of Australia's artists and creators.
Jenny Johnstone, an artist drawn to landscapes and their subconscious undertones, contributes two sets of still images from footage taken while traveling by train and car.

Artist statement:
Hope was taken from the Lord Nelson on December 19 during an Opera Australia end-of-year party held at the same venue. The first public health orders related to COVID-19 were issued.

Artist statement:
In 2021, I embarked on a 14-hour train journey from Sydney to Broken Hill, amidst the widespread flooding that affected New South Wales. While the train was travelling at a slow speed, I observed a glass-like, silent landscape, with the sound of the train's engine sounding like a heartbeat. The combination of the moving horizon, the stretched-out imagery of mirrored trees, and the accompanying sound inspired me to title the works I created from this footage 'oscillogram'. An oscillogram is a visual representation of sound over time, or a waveform.
The title 'remanence' is similarly a scientific term and means the magnetisation left behind in a material after an external magnetic field is removed. For me, it refers to what remains after something has moved on. Perhaps a moment captured and held dear but otherwise unseen.
